How to access the ASURA Google account

If you will be posting to YouTube, monitoring email, using the Zoom account, or creating a Google survey instrument on behalf of ASURA, this page explains how to get set up with the needed access.

Getting access

Before you can log in to the ASURA Google account, the Equipment Manager will need to establish you as an authorized user. This is because Google requires use of 2FA (two-factor authorization), which requires use of your phone.

Therefore, to begin, send an email to the Equipment Manager requesting access. Include the role you have with ASURA that requires the access and your cell phone number -- the one that can be used for authentication.

The Equipment Manager will:

  • Log in to the ASURA Google account.
  • Click on the ASURA Logo in the upper right corner and select "Manage your Google account"
  • Choose "Security & sign-in" from the menu on the left, then "2-Step Verification" from the list under "How you sign in to Google".
  • Choose "Phone number" from the list under "Second steps".
  • Add your cell phone number to the list of 2-Step Verification phones.
  • Notify you that you should now be able to sign in using the steps shown on the right side of this page, and provide you with the log-in password.

Signing in

Before you log in for the first time, you should install the Google Authenticator app on your phone. You may or may not need it, depending on whether Google wants to use 2FA for your login.

To log in:

  • On your computer, go to google.com
  • Click on the blue Sign In link.
  • If this is not your first time signing in, choose the ASU Retirees Association account. Otherwise, choose "Use another Account".
  • Enter [email protected] in the sign in box for email or phone and click on Next.
  • If you see "Hi  ASU Retirees", enter the password that you were given by the Equipment Manager.
  • If you see "Use your passkey to confirm it's really you" or "Choose how you want to sign in", choose "Try another way".
    • On the 2-Step Verification screen select "Use your phone or tablet to get a security code".
    • On the next screen choose "Get a verification code from the Google Authenticator app".. If you don't see it, click on "Try another way" and choose it on the next screen.
    • Open the app on your phone and see the 6-digit code. Enter that in the box indicated.
  • You should be logged in now, and see the ASURA logo in the upper right corner of your screen.
