- Log in to the public ASURA website using your ASURITE credentials.
- Click on the "Content" button near the top left. If you don't see that button, click on ""Manage" and then the menu that has Content should appear.
- Click on the blue +Add content button at the top of the page that lists content. Select "ASU Obit".
- Put the name of the deceased in the Title -- use just first and last name.
- In the "ASU Obit Name" box, overwrite "Full Name" with the full name of the deceased. Do not use a title here (e.g. omit "Dr." or "Col."). If you accidentally delete the "Full Name", just enter the name of the deceased and then in the "Format" pull-down for that box, choose Heading 1.
- In the "ASU Obit Date of Death box" overwrite the text with the date of death. Format is as shown, i.e., Month dd, yyyy.
- In the ASU Obit Role, overwrite the text with the role the person had at ASU and when they had it, e.g. "Professor of Anthropology - 1980 to 2010". You can leave years off if you don't have them, and you can have more than one role if needed. You can use shift-enter to get to a new line for a new role. If you don't know the role, delete the text in the box. If you have copied into this field, remove any extraneous formatting by hitting the Tx (remove formatting) icon in the text editor.
- Copy the text from the obituary into the "ASU Obit Text" box. If you get a popup about pasting from Word or similar, choose the "OK" (I want to clean it up) option. Again, it is probably a good idea to highlight all of the copied text and then hit the Tx (remove formatting) icon. This will make sure the font is not being formatted to something other than our standards.
Review any links for whether to remove them. Links that are basically time sensitive should be removed. Most can be retained.
- Skip this step if you don't have a photo of the deceased. If you do have a photo, click on the "x" in the upper right corner of the cactus photo, then click on the "Add media" button. In the window that pops up, click on the "Choose File" button, then navigate to and select the photo from your computer. In the next window that pops up, showing your picture, in the Name field enter the first and last names of the person. Click in the box next to "Decorative". In the Directory pull-down, select Obituary Photos. Leave Caption blank. Click on the red "Save and insert" button.
- Click on the blue "Save" button at the bottom. You should see your obituary page, looking great! If you see something wrong, proceed to the steps below for Editing an Obituary.
For now, you will not be able to edit obituaries you did not create.
- Follow steps 1 and 2 for "Add an obituary", above.
- Locate the obituary you want to edit in the list of content. You can do this by using the search box on the obituaries page.
- When you see what you want, click on the "Edit" button, between "View" and "Delete", at the top. This will bring up the form that you completed when you added the obituary.
