Vice President responsibilities

The ASURA Bylaws (Article V.D.3) establishes this position.

Read Bylaws

Duties overview

The only duties defined in the Bylaws while serving as Vice President relate to taking up the Presidential duties in the absence of the President. The Vice President does have the responsibility of helping the newly elected Board Members become familiar with the Association and how it operates. The President may assign other duties.

New Board member orientation

Once the new Board members are elected the Vice President has the following responsibilities:

  • Notify the winners (and losers if there are more than five on the ballot). This is a good time to welcome them to the Board and to begin the process of scheduling the late March orientation.
  • Organize an orientation session, before the Annual Meeting in April for the new Board Members so they feel
    • that being a Board Member will be rewarding, and
    • comfortable with the position so they can start contributing quickly

Only the last item needs some explanation. This meeting has historically been held in CSB 330 which has computer projection equipment. There is a PowerPoint presentation stored on Wild Apricot that can be updated and used if that is helpful. The presentation has three parts:

  • Board member expectations
  • About ASURA
  • ASURA's websites

There are some reasonable presentation notes on the Notes page for the various slides.

Typically each new Board Member is given a copy of:

  • the Bylaws,
  • the "Decade of Success" books
  • the Tri-fold,
  • a copy of the latest Prime Times
  • a typical Board meeting agenda.
