Equipment Management Committee

The Equipment Management Committee oversees ASURA's office and meeting technology, and use of various technology services with their associated accounts.

Overview

ASURA's Equipment Management Committee:

  •  Oversees acquisition and use of ASURA's meeting and office technology.

  • Oversees use of technology services and accounts needed to support operations, such as Google, Dropbox, and Apple.

The Equipment Management Committee is not responsible for the membership and events databases nor for ASURA's websites. These are the provinces of the Database Management Committee and the Websites Committee.

Traditionally, the Video History Project Committee oversees the equipment that it uses for the project, and makes purchases from its own account. The Technology Manager may of course be called upon to assist wth the committee's technology and its use as desired.

Specific tasks

ASURA has computers and other equipment that are used by volunteers to conduct their business.

The technology manager oversees acquisition and use of the equipment. Specifically:

  • Works with ASU's Enterprise Technology (ASU ET) to make sure that computers and other equipment are in compliance with current standards for maintainability and security. The current contact for ASU ET's office computer support is listed on the Helpful People page. (Note that the Helpful People page is visible only to logged in users who have permission to see it.)
  • When replacement is advisable or when there is a need for more or different equipment, works with those who use the equipment, ASU ET (usually appropriate), the ASURA Executive Committee, and the ASURA Business Manager to arrange for puchase and installation.
  • Makes sure that those who use the equipment know where to get help if there are problems.
  • Maintains the Meeting Technology page on this website, together with the printable instructions regarding meeting technology.
  • Maintains the Technology Accounts page on this website. [Note that you must be logged in to this website and have appropriate privileges to see the Technology Accounts page.]
  • Coordinates as needed with the Database Committee and the Websites Committee in connection with management of accounts that are within the purview of those groups.
  • Assists the Video History Project Committee with acquisition and use of its equipment if requested by the committee chair. Coordinates use of technology service accounts shared by the project and other committees, such as the ASURA Dropbox account.

ASURA has a variety of accounts for using services in addition to those associated with the websites and the databases. These are all listed on the Technology Accounts page.

The Technology Manager is responsible for maintaining account credentials for these services, and for taking any necessary actions, such as changing passwords, to prevent or respond to security threats.

The Technology Manager is also responsible for maintaining the Technology Accounts page and the permissions that control who may see it. This may be accomplished through coordination with the Websites Committee.
