Sustainable operations
ASURA is operated wholly by volunteers. Those volunteers are creative, committed, energetic, and effective in their roles. The officers, Board members, office volunteers and committees make sure that members are well served and the purposes of the organization are actively pursued.
There is a new President of ASURA every year. There are over twenty other officers, Board members, committee chairs, and office volunteers, and many more committee members. When someone decides to step aside from a volunteer role, there may not be much transfer of knowledge to the person taking their place about what was done and how it was done.
This site contains information designed to give new volunteers the help they need to get a running start. It also helps longer-term volunteers stay on track. After all, retirees spend much of their time doing things such as traveling and spending time with family, so the time between volunteer-related tasks can make it hard to remember all the details.
