- Log in to the site with your ASURITE UserID and password – upper right corner sign-in. This will bring up a menu at the top of the screen that begins with “Content”. If it doesn't click on "Manage" and the menu should appear.
- Click on the “Content” button then click on the blue “+ Add content” button. For the main ASURA website, chose “Basic page”. For the ASURA-Vol site, choose "ASURA Private". This opens up a window titled "Create [Basic or ASURA Private] page".
- In the title box enter a title for your new page. Pick a meaningful title so that content is clear. If you don't want to make this content available yet, uncheck the "Published" box. Click on the “Save” button. This will open your new page, with no content.
The content for a basic page is created using Sections and Blocks.
- Sections define empty areas on the page. They can stretch across the entire page or more usually are limited to a fixed width. Sections can contain up to 4 columns.
- Blocks are located with a Section and contain the information displayed. There are a variety of predefined Blocks
The normal process, outlined below, involves defining a Section and then adding Blocks to the Section.
- At the top of the page, click on "Layout".
- Add a hero to Section 1. That section is blue and has a + Add block link.
- Click on the gray +add section. In the "Choose a layout" column that opens, choose one of these. The other choices are in not suitable for most purposes because they don't have the required margins left and right.
- One column fixed-width. Text in this column is limited to 700 pixels, so if you choose this for text content, you will have a fair amount of white space on the right.
- Two column bootstrap. This allows you to choose from several proportions, e.g. 50-50 or 2/3-1/3. The 2/3 column on the left is a good choice for content that is mainly text. You can use the smaller right-hand column for text that is something of an overview, for examples, etc.
- Three column fixed-width. This also has many choices for how to proportion the three columns.
- Four column fixed-width. These will be four equal-width columns.
- Enter something in the Administrative label field. It can be something brief that is just enough so that you will be able to recognize what the section is for if you want to move something to it. You normally will not use any of the other fields, except the column width field on those that have it.
- Click on the blue Add section button. You should now see your section in the layout with a blue background and a button or button for adding blocks.
- Click on +Add block in the area that you want to use for your content. This will bring up the "Choose a block" menu on the right. For most uses, you will be creating a "custom block". These are the special blocks made available as part of Webspark 2. So click on the + create custom block at the top of the list.
- Choose a block type. Note that the list is alphabetical. For text content, choose one of these:
- Text content - for text that will be all in one column.
- Tabbed content - for text that will be displayed as folder tabs. This can be useful for presenting text that has categories. Don't use this if the content for each tab will be less than 700 pixels wide. Tabbed content that is made up of lists of items or similar doesn't look good. Content on each tab should be organized similarly. Tabs should be avoided if users need to compare information on the different tabs.
- Accordion - for text that is fairly lengthy and that has or could have several headings. The headings will become the accordion heading and the viewer clicks on that to see what is under it.
- Fill in the fields. Again, Block admin title is something that is useful mainly if you wind up wanting to move the block to a different section or before/after blocks in this section. So just something short that identifies it for you. Notes:
- The heading on the accordion panels and the tab title on tabbed content cannot contain any special characters, such as &. If you use special characters, they will not open when clicked on.
- Although in theory you are supposed to be able to move tabs or accordion panels up or down within the block, that doesn't always work smoothly. Also, if you try to delete just one tab or one accordion panel within the block, it turns out that they all get deleted.
- You can choose the text format at will, and alternate between them if you want to.
- You can use the Source button in a content field to edit the HTML. If you do this, you must click on the Source button after editing and before Adding or Updating the block, or you will lose the changes you made.
- Click on Add block. You should see your block in the Layout.
- You can add other sections and blocks until you are happy with your page. It is probably wise to click on the "Save layout" button at the bottom from time to time to avoid losing work. You can continue adding or changing you content by clicking on the Layout button at the top of the page. You can find a page you have started and not yet added to the menu by clicking on the Content button of the Admin menu. Put a word or words in the Title box at the top of the page, and click on the Filter button. That should give you a short list of pages that have the word or words in the title. Click on the one you want, click on the Layout button, and edit.
- To make changes to a block in your layout, hover over the top right corner until you see a little pencil icon. Click on the icon. Choose configure if you want to edit the content, move to move the block to elsewhere in this or another section, and delete if you want to delete the block entirely.
